I’m Cath Janes, a textile artist specialising in hand embroidered fine art that focuses on our bodies and health journeys. Everything you see here has been designed and stitched by me in my studio in south Wales. I love subverting the expectations of hand embroidery through photo-realistic work and using the medium to start conversations about the parts of ourselves that we’d often not look at.
I’ve been hand embroidering anatomy for several years and my work is commissioned by everyone from art lovers and patients to anatomy enthusiasts and medical professionals. At the moment I’m creating a series of hand embroideries about maternal mental health, based on my own experiences. These pieces have been exhibited throughout the UK.

Two Exhibitions in August
Edinburgh & Neath
This is The House of Smalls 30th exhibition showcasing textile art by women, all depicting and recognising the women through history who toiled and entertained, filled the voids and fought the fights that kept the world turning.
The Queen Street Gallery in Neath are holding their annual Summer Exhibition featuring work from gallery artists and South Wales Potters.

Embroidery
My hand embroidered textile art is commissioned by medical professionals, anatomy enthusiasts and people who want to honour their own medical journeys. That's why I stitch pieces that are as anatomically correct as they are beautiful.
They can take up to 100 hours of work and often require single stranded stitches that are just millimetres long but it's always worth it for the unique end result. To discuss your ideas please write to me by email.
